Wei Chia-hsien announces ‘Future Savings Account’ policy for Hualien
Wei Chia-hsien, a candidate for Hualien County Magistrate, has announced his ‘Future Savings Account’ policy aimed at addressing regional issues such as aging populations, stagnant tourism, and transportation difficulties. The policy proposes a series of twelve specialized accounts designed to support residents from birth to age 80.
The first phase introduces three specific accounts: a local tourism fund, a transportation fund, and a physical and mental health check-up fund. Each provides annual credits for residents, such as 3,600 TWD for local tourism and 3,600 TWD for transportation. The health check-up fund offers 3,600 TWD annually for those under 25 and 6,000 TWD for those aged 25 and older to cover services like ultrasounds and psychological counseling.
Wei stated that the total cumulative value of these three initial accounts could reach 1.01 million TWD over a lifetime. He emphasized that these funds are credits rather than cash payouts and are intended to complement existing welfare benefits without increasing local debt. The candidate expressed confidence in the fiscal feasibility of the plan, citing projected increases in Hualien County's annual revenue.
