Wei Chia-hsien proposes development strategy for Hualien

Hualien County Councilor and mayoral candidate Wei Chia-hsien delivered a final general interpellation during the current legislative term, presenting what he termed a ‘diagnostic report’ for the region. Using nearly 300 topics accumulated over seven interpellations, Wei reviewed the county government's progress on issues ranging from education and employment to healthcare, tourism, and disaster prevention.

Wei identified the core issue facing Hualien as the inability to retain its population, noting declining birth rates and the difficulty young people face in establishing lives locally. To address this, he proposed two primary development directions: providing comprehensive support for all life stages—including childcare and elderly care—and revitalizing local industries through improved transportation, tourism, and high-paying technology jobs. He also emphasized the need for a dedicated disaster prevention unit to manage natural disasters more effectively.
