Wei Chia-hsien signs clean election covenant for Hualien
Wei Chia-hsien, a candidate for Hualien County Magistrate, held a press conference to sign a ten-item ‘Clean Election Self-Discipline Covenant.’ He has publicly invited all other candidates in Hualien to sign the agreement to promote electoral integrity.
The covenant covers four primary areas: money and goods (prohibiting vote-buying and foreign resources), personnel (requiring identification for staff and prohibiting harassment), information (forbidding the use of AI to falsify audio/video and requiring full disclosure of polling data), and post-election conduct (removing campaign materials within seven days).
Local lawyers attended the event to provide legal clarity on election laws, including the legal responsibilities regarding AI-generated misinformation and the reporting of bribery. Wei also reminded citizens that whistleblowers reporting vote-buying can receive rewards of up to NT$5 million under existing regulations.
