Wei-Yi Hiura apologizes after Brothers pitcher rolls ball to first base
CTBC Brothers manager Wei-Yi Hiura issued a public apology to the Uni-President Lions and fans following a controversial play by pitcher Knight during a game at the Taipei Dome. In the third inning, Knight fielded a ground ball and rolled it toward first base to complete an out rather than using a standard throw.
Hiura expressed strong disapproval, stating that such a play is “not allowed” and does not represent the style of baseball played by the CTBC Brothers. He noted that the action lacked respect for the opponent and potentially shifted the momentum of the game, fueling the Lions' competitive drive. Hiura admitted he considered removing the pitcher immediately to prevent further disrespect toward the game.
In terms of game results, the Brothers secured a 5-4 comeback victory in extra innings to extend their winning streak to five games. Earlier in the series, the Brothers also utilized a key defensive error by the Lions' Chen Jie-xian to secure a 4-2 win, moving them into first place for the second half of the season.
