Weight loss discussions focus on GLP-1 medications and muscle preservation

As GLP-1 medications gain popularity for weight management, medical professionals and researchers are highlighting the importance of comprehensive health assessments and the preservation of muscle mass during weight loss.

For individuals in midlife, factors such as hormonal changes, stress, and age-related muscle loss can complicate weight management. Healthcare providers recommend evaluating candidates based on medical history, BMI, and body composition rather than weight alone. It is advised that patients discuss current medications, digestive issues, and personal health goals with providers to ensure prescription treatments are appropriate.

Concerns regarding muscle loss associated with synthetic GLP-1 medications have led to interest in alternative approaches. Sarah Kennedy, CEO of Calocurb, noted that a six-month study of 150 participants showed significant weight loss primarily from fat rather than muscle, including a reduction in visceral fat. Calocurb is a supplement designed to stimulate the body’s natural appetite-suppressing hormones, such as GLP-1, and is taken before meals to promote satiety.
