Weilheim-Schongau implements regional heart emergency assistance project

In the Weilheim-Schongau district of Bavaria, Landrat Johann Bertl has distributed 45 new automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to 24 project partners. This initiative, known as HerzNotfallhilfe Weilheim-Schongau, is the first of its kind in Bavaria to be supported by the European LEADER program.

The project involves 16 municipalities, four associations, and four companies. The devices will be installed at highly visible, publicly accessible locations to ensure 24-hour availability. The goal is to bridge the gap in medical care, particularly in rural areas, by providing tools that can be safely operated by laypeople through voice instructions.

In a related effort to improve emergency response, a Reanimation Day was held in Würzburg. During the event, approximately 50 participants practiced telephone resuscitation by calling the emergency number 112 and receiving step-by-step guidance from dispatch center staff. Local emergency organizations, including the Bavarian Red Cross and various fire departments, provided training on chest compressions and AED usage to help citizens overcome hesitation during cardiac emergencies.
