Weir to supply HPGR technology to Zijin Mining in Ghana

Weir has secured an order to supply two ENDURON high-pressure grinding rolls (HPGR) to Zijin Mining’s Golden Ridge operation at the Akyem gold mine in Ghana. The order was recorded during the third quarter of 2026.

The implementation aims to optimize the existing SAG/ball mill processing circuit by using the HPGR units to process pebbles. This move is intended to eliminate bottlenecks in the comminution circuit, improve grinding efficiency, and increase overall yield and recovery. The technology is expected to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions by generating a substantial amount of fines for subsequent grinding stages.

The Akyem mine is an open-pit gold operation with a processing capacity of 8.6 million tonnes of ore per year (Mtpa), with a projected mine life extending beyond 2040. While the contract value and delivery schedule were not disclosed, Weir will provide support from its center in Ghana.
