Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History receives grant and Smithsonian consideration

The Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History in Philadelphia has received a $47,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission. This funding, part of a larger $4 million initiative to support cultural and historical institutions across 60 Pennsylvania counties, provides unrestricted operating support to help museums preserve foundational history.

Separately, a newly sworn-in congressional commission is studying the possibility of adding the Weitzman Museum to the Smithsonian museum network. Commission chair Philip Darivoff and vice chair Dara Horn stated that inclusion in the Smithsonian would signal the importance of Jewish American history and culture to the nation. The commission has two years to complete its study, following legislation passed in 2024.
