Wekerle Plusz program to support heating modernization in Hungary

The upcoming Wekerle Plusz program, expected to be available from 2027, offers new opportunities for apartment owners to modernize their heating systems. This is particularly relevant for those facing the replacement of aging gas boilers.

In older apartment buildings, replacing traditional turbo boilers with modern condensing units can be complex and costly due to the need for different flue gas exhaust systems. If multiple apartments share a common chimney, a single replacement may necessitate expensive and time-consuming structural changes for the entire building.

Modern air-to-water heat pumps present a technological alternative. Unlike gas systems, heat pumps do not require fossil fuels or flue gas exhaust systems. Recent advancements allow these units to produce water temperatures up to 75°C, meaning residents can upgrade to electric heating without removing existing radiators. Successful implementation will require careful mechanical sizing and potential upgrades to electrical and building infrastructure.
