Welcome to Derry Season 2 to feature 1935 Depression-era setting

Showrunner Brad Caleb Kane has provided updates on the second season of the HBO horror prequel series ‘It: Welcome to Derry’. The new season will be set in 1935 during the Great Depression, twenty-seven years before the events of the first season. Kane described the setting as being influenced by the atmosphere of gangster films, featuring elements such as bank robbers, Hoovervilles, and religious fundamentalism. The season is expected to include the Bradley Gang massacre from Stephen King’s fictional history.

Production is currently in the writing phase, with filming scheduled to begin in the summer of next year. While an official release date has not been announced by HBO, the production timeline suggests a potential release in late 2027 or 2028. Kane, who is now the sole showrunner following Jason Fuchs' departure, teased that the season will offer a new approach to the character Pennywise, though Bill Skarsgård is expected to return to the role.

Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti will continue as executive producers alongside Kane, Roy Lee, Dan Lin, Jamie Travis, and Dhana Gilbert.
