Welfair 2026 concludes with fertility protection law proposal

The seventh edition of the Welfair healthcare fair in Rome concluded with the presentation of a nine-article legislative proposal aimed at protecting fertility. Developed by the Pma working group ‘In favor of fertility’, the proposal was coordinated by Rocco Rago, director at Sandro Pertini Hospital, and lawyer Marco Crispo.

The proposal seeks to establish a specific regulatory framework for programmed fertility preservation. It aims to recognize the cryopreservation of both male and female gametes as a tool for preventive healthcare and reproductive health protection, rather than just a social choice.

Experts clarified that this is not a modification of Law 40 regarding medically assisted procreation, but an autonomous regulation based on scientific evidence. The initiative intends to address social and demographic shifts, such as the increasing age of parenthood, by integrating fertility protection into broader health prevention policies.
