Well in the Desert suspends Saturday food bank in Palm Springs

The nonprofit Well in the Desert has suspended its Saturday food bank services following the loss of its longtime location in Palm Springs. The organization, which serves approximately 250 families each Saturday, was displaced after the City of Palm Springs approved a $4 million purchase of the property on North Indian Canyon Drive to construct a new fire station.

President Matt Naylor stated that the organization has been unable to secure a new location for Saturday distributions, noting that several property owners declined rental offers despite the nonprofit offering six months of rent in advance. While food storage has been moved to a different site, the new space cannot accommodate the scale of the Saturday distribution.

Weekday meal services for individuals experiencing homelessness will continue through partner churches and Oscar's Palm Springs. Well in the Desert is currently working to direct affected families to other food banks while searching for a permanent home.
