Wellington Correctional Centre: Woman arrested for alleged drug smuggling

A 36-year-old woman has been arrested following an alleged attempt to smuggle drugs into the Wellington Correctional Centre in New South Wales. The incident occurred on Saturday, September 12, 2026, when a drug detection dog provided a positive indication during a visit.

Police report that the woman allegedly attempted to bring methamphetamine and buprenorphine, a prescription opiate painkiller, into the facility. During a subsequent search of her vehicle, officers seized two mobile phones.

The woman was taken to Dubbo Police Station and faces multiple charges, including bringing prohibited drugs into a place of detention, possession, and driving while disqualified. She has been refused bail and is scheduled to appear before the Wellington Local Court on Tuesday, September 22, 2026.
