Wellington Fagundes updates Mato Grosso candidacy and questions state funds

Wellington Fagundes, a candidate for the governorship of Mato Grosso, has announced changes to his political ticket and addressed fiscal management in the state.

Alencar Farina has been replaced as the vice-governor candidate by businessman Reinaldo Moraes. The substitution follows legal concerns regarding Farina’s professional ties to the public health sector. Farina, a physician and owner of Hospital Santa Rita in Várzea Grande, maintains contracts with the public health system. Legal analysis by the Liberal Party (PL) indicated that Farina’s failure to decouple from these public service roles could have led to the ineligibility of the entire ticket.

Additionally, Fagundes has challenged the current administration regarding the allocation of approximately R$ 3 billion received through the Fund for Compensation of Export Losses (FEX) since 2020. He questioned why these resources have not resulted in improved road infrastructure and maintenance across Mato Grosso, asserting that the transparency of parliamentary amendments allows for public comparison of political results.
