Wells Fargo, Cisco, and Marvell oppose OKXICE stock tokenization plan
Major American corporations, including Wells Fargo, Cisco, and Marvell, have formally raised objections to OKXICE’s plan to issue tokenized stocks. These companies cited regulatory and legal uncertainties regarding the digitization of their shares on blockchain infrastructure.
Wells Fargo expressed concerns that tokenization could lead to compliance issues under U.S. securities laws, specifically regarding ownership and oversight. Cisco and Marvell argued that the current regulatory framework is insufficiently developed, which could cause confusion among investors. Consequently, these firms have requested further clarification and a delay in the project's launch.
The OKXICE project aims to allow users to trade tokenized versions of popular U.S. stocks using an Automated Market Maker (AMM) model. While the initiative seeks to increase liquidity and accessibility for global investors, it faces significant pushback from traditional Wall Street entities. The project operates under a temporary SEC exemption that allows certain tokenized stock exchanges to bypass specific registration requirements for five years, provided the tokens offer rights equivalent to the underlying shares.
