Wels prepares for 2027 Landesgartenschau garden show

Preparations are accelerating for the 2027 Landesgartenschau (State Garden Show) in Wels, themed ‘Stadt der Gärten’ (City of Gardens). Recent developments include a project inspection focused on urban development and the sustainable design of green spaces in Wels and Thalheim bei Wels. The initiative, part of the Upper Austrian urban region impulse program, highlights the transformation of the Volksgarten and the design of the Traun riverbanks.

To mark the progress, a special ‘Stadt-der-Gärten’ hot air balloon conducted its first flight over the city, providing a bird's-eye view of the construction and planting occurring across six distinct garden worlds, including the Reinberg and the zoo area. The balloon, which will be available for visitor bookings during the event, serves as a promotional symbol for the upcoming opening in April 2027.
