Welsh Government announces £10m for regional regeneration projects

The Welsh Government has announced £10 million in regeneration funding through the Transforming Towns programme to support various infrastructure and community projects across Wales.

Wrexham is set to receive £5 million specifically for its cultural quarter. This investment will fund improvements to Henblas Street, Chester Street, and the former Hippodrome Cinema site, including the creation of new green spaces for families. The funding aims to bolster local businesses and support the creative community, building on existing successes at sites like Ty Pawb.

Other regional allocations include:

• Bala: £850,000 for the Bala Lake Railway Trust’s Red Dragon Project to extend the railway into the town centre. • Brynmawr: £757,400 for the acquisition of the Stagecoach site to improve connections between the retail park and the town centre. • Neath: £765,435 for street and public space improvements near Shufflebotham Lane. • Monmouth: £357,814 to redevelop the Monmouth Bus Station. • Newport: £250,000 for development work at Rodney Parade’s Cabbage Patch to create an outdoor sports and wellbeing centre.

Additionally, £2 million will support the South West Wales Placemaking Grant programme across Swansea and Neath Port Talbot.
