Welsh Government faces protests over upcoming defence summit

A coalition of anti-war, human rights, and student groups is organizing a protest against the Defence Security Resilience Cymru summit, scheduled for September 3 and 4 at ICC Wales in Newport. The event, co-sponsored by the Welsh Government, Business in Focus, ADS Group, and General Dynamics Land Systems, is intended to strengthen Wales’s role in the British defence sector.

Campaigners are demanding the Welsh Government cancel the summit, citing the participation of major arms manufacturers such as BAE Systems and General Dynamics. Opponents argue that these companies supply weapons to Israel and Saudi Arabia. Protesters are also challenging the economic strategy of using the arms industry for regional regeneration, instead advocating for investment in a green economy and socially useful production to provide secure, well-paid work for Welsh citizens.
