Welsh language promotion strategies to be reviewed in Cardiff conference

A conference in Cardiff, organized jointly by the Welsh Language Commissioner and Mentrau Iaith Cymru, is focusing on strengthening strategies to increase the everyday use of the Welsh language in communities. The event brings together approximately 150 representatives from various organizations dedicated to language promotion.

Welsh Language Commissioner Efa Gruffudd Jones stated that existing promotion strategies have not yet reached their full potential as community language planning tools. She emphasized the need for organizations to move beyond merely providing bilingual services and instead focus on making Welsh a living language in all aspects of community life.

Under current standards, local authorities and national parks are required to implement five-year strategies for language promotion. The Welsh Government has committed to reviewing these standards, and Anna Brychan, the Minister for Education and the Welsh Language, is expected to outline the next steps in this process during the conference.
