Welsh Rugby Union launches new bilingual digital app
The Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) has launched a new bilingual digital platform, the Rygbi Cymru app, intended to centralize information for players, volunteers, referees, clubs, and supporters. Developed internally by the WRU’s Data and Digital department, the app aims to simplify the management and tracking of the sport across Wales.
Key features include access to official fixtures, results, live match updates, team sheets, and notifications. A significant innovation allows teams to record live match events pitch-side—such as tries, conversions, penalties, and substitutions—linking them directly to individual player records. This data-driven approach is intended to help the WRU better understand and develop the game from the grassroots level through to senior rugby.
Geraint John, the WRU community director, stated that the app was designed to make following and running the game ‘simpler, faster and more connected’ while laying the groundwork for a data-driven future in the sport.
