Welsh schoolboy acquitted of attempted murder after stabbing teacher

A 16‑year‑old pupil, who was 15 at the time of the attack, was tried at Swansea Crown Court for stabbing his history teacher, Vicki Williams, in the head with a kitchen knife at Milford Haven Comprehensive School in Pembrokeshire, Wales. The incident occurred on 5 February after the boy asked the teacher to check his schoolwork, closed the classroom door, and then lunged at her with the knife. Williams sustained a scalp wound, scratches on her back and minor cuts on her hands, and told the jury she feared she would die.

A jury returned a majority verdict finding the boy not guilty of attempted murder but guilty of wounding with intent and unlawful wounding. He had previously pleaded guilty to possession of a kitchen knife on school grounds. He will be sentenced on 3 September. CCTV footage showed him leaving the school and later being arrested at his grandmother's home after telling her, “something went in my head.” The judge, Paul Thomas KC, noted the lack of prior conflict between the student and the teacher.
