Wenceslao Vega Boyrie, prominent Dominican jurist, dies at 93

Wenceslao Vega Boyrie, a prominent Dominican jurist, historian, and university professor, passed away on Monday, August 24, at the age of 93. Born in Santiago de los Caballeros in 1932, he was a central figure in the study of the evolution of law and institutions in the Dominican Republic.

Vega Boyrie earned a doctorate in Law from the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo and pursued doctoral studies in History at the University of Seville in Spain. His academic career included teaching at the Catholic University of Santo Domingo and holding memberships in the Dominican Academy of History and the Dominican Institute of Genealogy.

He is widely recognized for his extensive bibliography, most notably ‘Historia del Derecho Dominicano’, which served as a foundational text for generations of lawyers, judges, and students. His other significant works include ‘Historia del Derecho Colonial Dominicano’, ‘Historia de la Corte de Casación Dominicana’, and ‘Historia del Poder Judicial Dominicano’.
