Wendy Queliz honored with five awards for inclusive theater work

Dominican theater director, educator, and cultural manager Wendy Queliz has received five prestigious awards in Massachusetts, United States, recognizing her two decades of work in the performing arts.

The honors were granted by the City of Lawrence, the Lawrence City Council, the Lawrence Theater Festival, the Massachusetts State Senate, and the organization Cambiando el mundo de personas con Discapacidad (CEMDPCD). The awards highlight her pioneering work in inclusive and neurodiverse theater, as well as her commitment to arts education.

As part of the recognition, Mayor Brian A. DePeña signed an official proclamation from the City of Lawrence on August 13, 2026, acknowledging Queliz’s contributions to Dominican culture and social transformation through theater. Additionally, the 14th edition of the Lawrence Theater Festival was officially dedicated to her.
