Werder Bremen defender Arthur shows versatility in Mainz victory
Werder Bremen defender Arthur, on loan from Bayer Leverkusen, delivered a standout performance during the club's 3-2 away victory against Mainz. The 23-year-old Brazilian, primarily a right-back, demonstrated significant tactical flexibility by moving to the left-back position following an injury-related substitution of Olivier Deman.
Head coach Daniel Thioune praised Arthur's ability to adapt quickly to the left flank, noting his speed and previous experience in that role. Arthur was directly involved in two of Bremen's goals, including winning a penalty through a high-speed sprint.
Looking ahead to the upcoming DFB-Pokal match in Dortmund, Thioune suggested that Arthur might start on the left due to Deman's fitness issues. The coach also expressed hope that the defender will find his scoring touch, noting that increased offensive participation has been a specific instruction from the coaching staff and management.
