Werder Bremen defender Oskar Wójcik awaits competitive debut

Werder Bremen defender Oskar Wójcik is still awaiting his competitive debut for the club following a pre-season muscular injury. The 23-year-old Polish international joined from Cracovia for €3 million during the summer transfer window but has missed the start of the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal campaigns.

Werder Bremen’s head of professional football, Peter Niemeyer, noted that the injury during preparations was unfortunate and that Wójcik requires more time to regain his rhythm. While he has been named as an unused substitute in recent matches, he has yet to see game time.

Head coach Daniel Thioune has not provided a specific timeframe for Wójcik’s debut but indicated that Wójcik and youngster Mick Schmetgens are among the players in good physical shape. Currently, the central defensive roles have been occupied by Marco Friedl and Amos Pieper, while veteran Niklas Stark continues to manage ongoing hip issues.
