Werder Bremen secures 4-2 pre‑season win over Energie Cottbus

Werder Bremen defeated recently promoted Energie Cottbus 4–2 in a pre‑season friendly at the LEAG Energie Stadion in Cottbus. The visitors overcame an early deficit, with Tolcay Cigerci scoring in the 6th minute, followed by Salim Musah (31'), Samuel Mbangula (45') and a second‑half brace from Paul Erevbenagie (103') and Chuki (120'). Axel Borgmann added a late goal for Cottbus, but the result gave Bremen confidence ahead of the new season.

Coach Daniel Thioune used a 3‑4‑2‑1 formation and welcomed back Romano Schmid after his World Cup break. Several Bremen players remained unavailable due to injuries or rest, including Felix Agu, Niklas Stark, Senne Lynen and others. Cottbus, coached by Claus‑Dieter Wollitz, will open its 2. Bundesliga campaign against Hannover 96 on 9 August, taking lessons from the match against the Bundesliga side.
