Werder Bremen signs Austrian goalkeeper Alexander Schlager

Werder Bremen have completed the signing of Austrian international Alexander Schlager, who will join the club as the second‑choice goalkeeper. The 24‑year‑old arrived from the World Cup and is currently on a brief holiday before reporting to Bremen next week.

Current first‑choice keeper Karl Hein said he welcomes the competition, stating he is prepared to fight for the No 1 spot. Hein emphasized that both keepers must earn their place and that the addition strengthens the goalkeeping group.

Schlager expressed confidence in his move, noting that his performances at the World Cup proved his quality and that he looks forward to contributing to the team.
