Wereldmuseum Amsterdam hosts disco music and culture exhibition
The Wereldmuseum Amsterdam is hosting an exhibition titled ‘Disco: meer dan glitter en glamour’, which explores the disco movement's origins in the Black, Latino, and queer underground clubs of New York. The exhibition, which runs until August 22, 2027, frames disco as a movement centered on freedom, inclusivity, and self-expression.
Visitors can experience the era through hundreds of disco tracks, videos, art, fashion, and design. Featured works include pieces by Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Kwame Brathwaite, Michael Abramson, and Meryl Meisler. The exhibition highlights the genre's role in the emancipation of women, people of color, and queer and trans individuals.
