Erdinger Weißbräu pioneer Werner Brombach dies at 86
Werner Brombach, the longtime owner and managing director of Erdinger Weißbräu, has died at the age of 86 following a short illness.
A pioneer in the brewing industry, Brombach joined the traditional brewery near Munich in 1965. Under his leadership, the company grew from an annual output of 40,000 hectoliters to approximately 1.5 million hectoliters, making Erdinger Weißbräu a globally recognized brand exported to over 100 countries. He is credited with being the first brewer to promote Bavarian wheat beer (Weißbier) extensively beyond the state of Bavaria.
Brombach had transferred ownership of the company to the Werner-Brombach-Family Foundation last year. He is remembered by industry leaders and Bavarian officials as a visionary entrepreneur who utilized high-profile sports sponsorships to build a global brand. He is survived by his daughter, Claudia, and son-in-law, Alexander.
