Werner Herzog receives Donostia award and warns of AI risks

German director Werner Herzog has been awarded the ‘Premio Donostia’ honorary award at the opening of the 74th San Sebastián Film Festival in Spain. The 84-year-old filmmaker received the honor from actor Orlando Bloom, who stars in Herzog’s new film, ‘Bucking Fastard’.

During a press conference, Herzog issued a warning to the younger generation regarding the rise of artificial intelligence and algorithmic influence. He urged people to remain vigilant, stating, ‘We must defend our souls against all the attacks from the outside that try to occupy our souls,’ and cautioned that the development of AI will become ‘very difficult.’

Despite receiving the prestigious award, Herzog indicated he has no intention of retiring, noting that he still has too much work to do.
