Werner Herzog to Receive Donostia Prize at San Sebastián Film Festival
German director Werner Herzog, aged 84, will be honored with the Donostia Prize during the opening gala of the 74th San Sebastián Film Festival, scheduled for 18‑26 September. The award ceremony will take place at the Teatro Victoria Eugenia in the Kursaal complex.
Herzog will also present his latest feature, *Bucking Fastard*, which will compete at the upcoming Venice Film Festival. The film stars Rooney Mara, Kate Mara, Orlando Bloom and Domhnall Gleeson and follows twin sisters who share a unique, synchronized bond.
The festival’s organizers highlighted Herzog’s six‑decade career of around 80 films, noting his focus on extreme situations and the contradictions of human nature. The event will also include sections featuring works by Pedro Almodóvar, Isabel Coixet, Albert Serra and a retrospective of French novelist José Giovanni.
