Wero expands European payment services with cashback incentives
Wero, a European digital payment system operated by various European banks, is positioning itself as an alternative to US-based services like PayPal. Unlike third-party providers, Wero transactions typically transfer funds directly to bank accounts, ensuring data remains within Europe under GDPR regulations.
Wero is increasingly integrated into existing banking applications from institutions such as ING, Sparkasse, Volksbank, and Deutsche Bank. The service is gaining merchant acceptance, with retailers including Amazon, Lidl, Decathlon, and Flixbus supporting the platform.
To encourage adoption, a cashback promotion is currently available for new users in Germany. Eligible customers can receive up to 15 euros in total: 5 euros after the first transaction and an additional 10 euros after the second. The promotion is valid for transactions made via P2P or at participating online retailers and is scheduled to run until November 9, 2026, or until the budget is exhausted.
