Wero to launch four new financial products by 2027

Wero, the digital payment platform owned by the European Payments Initiative (EPI), plans to introduce four new financial products in the Netherlands by 2027. The system is being positioned as a sovereign European alternative to dominant infrastructures like Visa, Mastercard, PayPal, and Klarna.

As part of the transition from iDEAL, which is scheduled to be phased out by December 31, 2027, Wero will integrate payment requests into its system starting in the fourth quarter of this year. Planned features for 2027 include subscription payments, event-dependent payments, and point-of-sale transactions via NFC or QR codes. The rollout for webshops through payment service providers is expected to begin in October.
