Wesbank shooting in South Africa kills two, wounds seven
In the early hours of 12 July 2026, police responded to reports of gunfire on Godetia Street in Wesbank, near Malmesbury, Western Cape. Officers found two victims dead – a 22‑year‑old man and a 21‑year‑old woman – and six adults plus an infant wounded. The injured were taken to hospital; the infant was later transferred to Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital and all victims were reported stable.
The South African Police Service opened two murder and seven attempted‑murder cases. Preliminary investigations suggest a group gathered outside a residence was attacked by multiple unknown assailants. Police are probing a possible gang motive but have made no arrests. Reinforced policing has been deployed in the area, and investigators have appealed for information via Crime Stop and the MySAPS app.
