Wesley Clark criticizes Special Court verdict against Hashim Thaçi

Former NATO Supreme Allied Commander Wesley Clark has expressed strong criticism of the Special Court in The Hague regarding the convictions of former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) leaders. Clark described the judicial decision as ‘offensive’ and characterized former Kosovo President Hashim Thaçi as a ‘victim’ of a flawed process.

During an interview, Clark stated that he has seen no evidence to support the accusations against Thaçi and noted that Thaçi did not have direct command over military operations during the conflict, identifying Agim Çeku as a leader instead. Clark called for the immediate return of Thaçi and other former KLA leaders to Kosovo.

Reflecting on the Kosovo War, Clark contrasted the actions of Hashim Thaçi with those of former Serbian leader Slobodan Milošević, whom he described as having a ‘genocidal mind.’ He recounted how Milošević ignored NATO demands and continued ethnic cleansing despite signing documents to withdraw forces. Clark also dismissed claims that the NATO intervention was intended to distract from political scandals, citing the prevention of genocide as the primary motivation, similar to previous interventions in Rwanda and Bosnia.
