Wesley So wins Sinquefield Cup after dramatic tie-break

Wesley So has won the 2026 Sinquefield Cup, part of the Grand Chess Tour, after a dramatic tie-break finish in Saint Louis. So secured his third title at the event, finishing with 5.5 points.

Following a final round where all games ended in draws, So and R Praggnanandhaa were tied for the lead. The competition proceeded to a series of tie-breaks. After two rapid games ended in draws, the match moved to an Armageddon tie-break. In the decisive rook endgame, So successfully defended his position with the black pieces to secure the draw required for the win, clinching the championship.

Praggnanandhaa finished in second place. Vincent Keymer and Javokhir Sindarov shared third place with 5 points each. Keymer successfully secured a spot in the Grand Chess Tour final by finishing ahead of Sindarov.
