Wesseling and Bornheim issued boil water advisory due to E. coli
Authorities in the Rhein-Erft-Kreis and Rhein-Sieg-Kreis have issued a precautionary boil water advisory for the towns of Wesseling and Bornheim in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The measure follows the detection of Escherichia coli (E. coli) bacteria at the Urfeld waterworks in Wesseling.
While E. coli was localized to the Urfeld facility, the advisory includes Bornheim because local utilities mix water from Wesseling into the Bornheim network. Although no bacteria have been detected directly within Bornheim's own supply, officials have closed the relevant inflow as a precaution.
Residents in the affected areas are instructed to bring tap water to a rolling boil before using it for drinking, cooking, or brushing teeth. The water must be allowed to cool after boiling before consumption. The advisory will remain in effect until laboratory analyses confirm that the water quality meets legal microbiological standards.
