West Africa Centre for Clean Air seeks regional partnerships

The West Africa Centre for Clean Air (WACCA), hosted by the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), is seeking regional partnerships and long-term support to manage air quality. This initiative comes as global funding for clean-air actions faces a decline.

Representatives from WACCA, including Coordinator Dr. Yen Adams Sokama-Neuyam and Project Lead Prof. Francis Kemausuor, attended the 2026 Africa Clean Air Forum in Pretoria, South Africa. The forum focused on the ‘Investment Case for Clean Air and Healthy Cities,’ aiming to help Africa accelerate air pollution mitigation through increased investment.

WACCA is part of a project supported by the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) to strengthen Ghana’s air-quality management policies and build regional capacity. The initiative is a collaborative effort involving KNUST, the University of Energy and Natural Resources, and Beijing University of Chemical Technology.
