West African football sees infrastructure growth and grassroots investment

In Ghana, Aduana FC executive Collins Attah Poku has identified sports infrastructure as a critical factor for the transformation of national football. Following an announcement by Sports Minister Kofi Adams that the government's mini-stadia project has expanded from six to 10 facilities, Poku noted that improved venues in locations such as Sunyani, Koforidua, Kumasi, and Wa would significantly enhance the domestic league. He emphasized that quality infrastructure is essential for talent identification and player development.

In Nigeria, the 2026 Bet9ja Foundation Ex-Internationals Cup concluded with FC Babington defeating FC Enegwea 3–1 to claim the ₦2.5 million prize. Adeyinka Anthony Adeboye, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development, commended the Lagos State Football Association and the Bet9ja Foundation for the initiative. The tournament aimed to connect Nigerian football legends with grassroots players, utilizing former internationals as mentors and role models to support the next generation of talent.
