Global cybersecurity awareness campaigns target social engineering and fraud
Various regions and organizations are intensifying efforts to combat rising cyber threats through public awareness campaigns. In Côte d’Ivoire, Orange Cloud & Cyber Solutions launched the ‘October Cyber Connect’ campaign, emphasizing that cybersecurity relies heavily on human governance and internal procedures rather than just technical tools.
In Eswatini, National Cybersecurity Awareness Month is highlighting the dangers of social engineering, where criminals use psychological manipulation, such as phishing via SMS or impersonation, to steal sensitive data. Similarly, the government of Sierra Leone has deployed mobile teams across the Western Area to educate citizens on mobile money fraud and WhatsApp account takeovers using local languages and community outreach.
Local initiatives are also appearing in other regions, such as Lagos, Nigeria, where officials have called for increased vigilance, and in Neyron, France, where a community workshop is scheduled to teach residents how to identify and prevent online scams.
