Africa and Europe launch widespread breast cancer awareness initiatives

Across several nations, various organizations and governments are conducting extensive breast cancer awareness and screening campaigns during October.

In Senegal, the Ministry of Health announced a 100 billion FCFA investment to strengthen the fight against female cancers, including breast and cervical cancer. Complementary efforts include sensitization programs within the Ministry of Civil Service and screening initiatives by the Senegalese League Against Cancer (LISCA) in correctional facilities.

In Côte d'Ivoire, the JCI Bouaflé mobilized hundreds of women for screening and education. In Algeria, inDrive partnered with Pink Move DZ to support community health. Other regional activities include a solidarity walk in Bamenda, Cameroon, organized by Alliance Française and OWED, and a planned free screening day in Lomé, Togo, led by Digital Girl. In Gabon, First Lady Zita Oligui Nguema was recognized for her commitment to cancer prevention.

Technological advancements are also emerging in the field. A large-scale study in Sweden involving over 100,000 women demonstrated that AI-assisted mammography can increase cancer detection sensitivity to 80.5%, potentially reducing missed aggressive tumors.
