West African health experts meet in Abuja to advance Lassa fever research
Regional experts are meeting in Abuja, Nigeria, for a scientific workshop focused on Lassa fever, organized by the West African Health Organisation (WAHO). The workshop aims to transform research and surveillance data into peer-reviewed scientific publications.
Liberian biomedical scientist Dr. Dougbeh Christopher Nyan is participating in the event, where he has advocated for increased government support for home-grown research into vaccines and diagnostics. The initiative follows a previous conference in Abidjan and seeks to harmonize scientific evidence and mentor researchers in publication ethics and manuscript preparation to better address endemic health threats in West Africa.
