On 7 August 2026 Côte d'Ivoire celebrated the 66th anniversary of its independence with a large military and civil parade in Abidjan. The ceremony featured a 21‑gun salute, cultural performances and the participation of foreign contingents, including Guinea’s Special Forces, delegations from Benin, Gabon, India, Ghana and other partners.

President Alassane Ouattara used the occasion to sign two decrees granting clemency to 4 661 detainees – a full presidential pardon for 2 064 prisoners and a sentence reduction for 2 597 others whose remaining terms were under 36 months. In his national address he praised the country’s economic and social progress, called for unity, and highlighted the strengthening of diplomatic ties, notably with Gabon’s President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, who attended the celebrations.

Local events were also held across the country, such as in the village of Kouakoun’dramakro near the Ghana border, where Ghanaian officials joined Ivorian authorities in joint festivities. The overall programme underscored Côte d'Ivoire’s emphasis on regional cooperation, security, and national cohesion.
