West African leaders oversee major educational infrastructure projects

Government officials in Liberia and Sierra Leone are overseeing significant educational infrastructure projects to address growing student enrollment and deteriorating facilities.

In Liberia, Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung Sr. and Education Minister Dr. Jaso Marley Jallah announced plans to renovate, reconstruct, and expand the historic June L. Moore Public School in Gbengbar’s Town. The project, supported by the World Bank-backed Excellence in Learning in Liberia (EXCEL) project, aims to alleviate overcrowding and improve access to water and roads. The school, established in 1969, has faced increasing pressure due to rising enrollment.

In Sierra Leone, Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh inspected the rehabilitation of the Goderich and Congo Cross campuses of Milton Margai Technical University. The BADEA-supported project includes the construction of new hostels and classrooms to ease accommodation challenges. Dr. Jalloh emphasized the need for timely completion and collaboration among contractors and project managers to ensure the infrastructure meets increasing student demand.
