West African ministers advocate for girls' empowerment and rights

In Liberia, Deputy Minister for Urban Affairs Fatima Bintu Sirleaf emphasized the role of mentorship in helping young women pursue education and leadership. Speaking at the ‘SHE IS THE WAY’ mentorship program, Sirleaf encouraged girls to remain focused on their ambitions and not allow social media or societal expectations to define their identities. She shared her personal journey of returning to education to encourage others that lifelong learning is possible regardless of current circumstances.

In Sierra Leone, the Minister of Gender and Children’s Affairs, Isata Mahoi, addressed the 7th National Girls Summit in Kenema. Mahoi called on families, communities, and institutions to collaborate in safeguarding girls' rights and ending harmful practices. She highlighted government initiatives such as Safe Spaces, One Stop Centres, and the 116 toll-free helpline, reaffirming a commitment to creating an environment where girls can lead and contribute to national development.
