West African nations prepare for AfCFTA implementation

West African nations Togo and Côte d'Ivoire are conducting workshops and seminars to prepare economic actors for the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

In Togo, a workshop held in Atakpamé focused on modernizing commercial procedures through the Single Window for Foreign Trade (GUCE), the Automated Marking System (SAM), and e-commerce. Government representatives emphasized that these tools aim to simplify procedures, reduce costs, and ensure the traceability of goods to combat fraud and counterfeiting. The Togo Trade Portal was also highlighted as a means to increase transparency in import and export processes.

In Côte d'Ivoire, the CGECI organized a technical seminar for customs brokers to address the challenges of removing trade barriers under the AfCFTA. The discussions centered on enhancing the competitiveness of Ivorian companies, managing customs formalities, and improving port logistics. Stakeholders called for continuous consultation between the private sector and public authorities to better integrate into regional and international value chains.
