West African Power Pool visits Beninese Power Production Company

Abdoulaye Dia, the Secretary General of the West African Power Pool (WAPP), conducted a working visit to the Beninese Power Production Company (SBPE) to strengthen cooperation within the electricity sector.

The meeting, requested by SBPE Director General Laurent Tossou, focused on supporting SBPE’s digitalization efforts and preparing the company for structured participation in the ECOWAS Regional Electricity Market. Key discussion points included the synchronization of the regional power system, transaction security, data reliability, real-time monitoring, and capacity building.

To facilitate these goals, WAPP intends to provide support through training programs, technical immersion sessions at the Information and Coordination Centre, and operational guidelines. Both parties agreed to establish a roadmap and designate focal points to improve SBPE’s performance and advance the integration of the West African power system.
