West Bank checkpoints and military barriers reach 942

The Wall and Settlement Against the Separation Barrier reported that the number of Israeli military checkpoints, gates, and obstacles in the West Bank has reached 942. This total includes 824 fixed checkpoints and 118 linear obstacles, such as trenches and embankments, spanning approximately 107.7 kilometers.

The report states that this system of closures is fragmenting the West Bank into isolated pockets and cantons, making Palestinian access to work, education, healthcare, and agricultural land subject to constant control. The organization notes that these barriers serve to re-engineer Palestinian geography by reducing communication between communities and increasing the difficulty of maintaining a stable life in the region.

Geographically, Hebron has the highest concentration with 221 fixed checkpoints, followed by Ramallah and Al-Bireh with 160, and Nablus with 120. Recent data shows an increase in barriers, including 13 new fixed gates and checkpoints identified in the last two months, particularly in the Jenin governorate.
