West Bank healthcare system faces collapse amid PA funding crisis

The healthcare system in the occupied West Bank is facing rapid deterioration due to the financial collapse of the Palestinian Authority (PA). Over the last three years, the PA has experienced severe funding shortages caused by a reduction in international aid and disruptions in tax receipt transfers from Israel.

As a result of these financial constraints, healthcare staff are reportedly receiving only half of their salaries. This crisis is compounded by widespread road closures, checkpoints, and increased settler activity, which hinder the movement of medical personnel and patients.

At the Beit Jala Government Hospital, the only government facility in the Bethlehem governorate, medical professionals are struggling with critical shortages of essential drugs, including those required for chemotherapy. Patients have faced regression in their conditions due to missed appointments and lack of medication.
