West Bank influence zones used for settlement expansion, commission reports

The Wall and Settlement Against the Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission has reported that the designation of “influence zones” in the West Bank serves as a central tool for spatial control by Israeli authorities. These zones act as a precursor to land seizure, allowing for the development of infrastructure, roads, and colonial planning even before physical construction begins.

According to monitoring data, 67 new or modified influence zones were approved throughout 2026, covering a total area of approximately 138,076 dunams. The expansion occurred in four distinct waves between January and August, with a significant concentration of 50 zones being established during the May and August waves alone.

The Commission warns that these zones are not merely administrative boundaries but are proactive maps used to reshape the West Bank. By connecting existing settlements and new sites, these measures aim to create colonial blocs while threatening to isolate and besiege Palestinian communities.
